May 2006 Quick Update

Hello everyone!

Here it is almost June! It seems impossible for the year to have gone by so quickly. We will leave again for Nkungi Village on the 15th of June. Two doctors from California, Dr. Betsy Hall & Dr. Gene Wright will be going with us, to run the “mobile bush clinic”. Yeah – you did it!!! The Toyota has been ordered and is due to arrive in Nkungi on the 13th of June! The Porta – Doc will be on the “road”! We are very excited! Thanks to everyone for your contributions and your many hours of helping to sell baskets and coffee. Every one of you and every dollar have helped!

In response to the March call from Dr. Rwezaura and Dr. Mike Kitwaka, (children are dying of starvation due to the terrible drought conditions), more Kids Against Hunger meals have been shipped. Through December 2005, Outreach had shipped 881,920 meals. Since March 2006, 570,240 KAH meals shipped and there are 285,120 more, which will ship before we leave for Tanzania! There will be a Kids Against Hunger food packaging in San Diego, July 15, at the Kroc Center. Everyone who is close enough should go help package these meals, just so you know what you are helping to send to the starving children. It is fun! Please contact Mary Rowe-Smith at 858-536-1431 for details.

We were notified that ALL of the 57 wells in Ilunda Ward have been repaired!! Four are now dry, however all the villages are now able to get water from the deeper wells! Alan Stricklin has purchased a wind/solar pump system, Alan will be returning with us and install the pumping equipment and an irrigation system, which will be used at the Secondary School. The children and village will be taught how to irrigate and grow crops year round! Lori Kovich, from Minnesota, is living in Nkungi village and will be helping to teach at the Secondary School. There are now 300 students in the Gunda Secondary School!!! These are children who would not have been educated above the 6th grade! You have all made such a tremendous difference in OUR world! Everyday the children and the Villagers feel hope, peace, and your love. I can’t think of a better way to change our world. Thank you all for your help, it is truly making such a difference! I extend the invitation to anyone who would like to join the January 2007, Medical Mission to call Sharon Kramer as soon as possible. She is getting so many volunteers; there will be a cut off date soon. If there are teachers or any one else who can help on the ground in Nkungi Village please do not hesitate to call, 1-800-513-0935. “Thank you”, doesn’t seem big enough for all you have done and all you continue to do. So many care, so many send you their love, so many have you in their prayers.

Blessings,
Outreach Africa
